EU students being resident permanently in Italy
Such students are eligible for mandatory registration with the National Health System, whereby they will receive a health card indicating the GP of their choice. Address to USL (Local Health Agency) to apply for a health card.
EU students who are not resident permanently in Italy, and who possess an insurance in their country of residence and a European health card (TEAM)
Such students may have recourse directly to a GP of the National Health System (or to an Emergency Department of a hospital).
EU students who are not resident permanently in Italy, and who do not possess an insurance in their country of residence (no TEAM)
Such students may apply for voluntary registration with the National Health System, paying a lump sum of 149,77 Euro. The amount is paid yearly and its validity expires on December 31st of each year. It entitles payers to receive a health card indicating the GP of their choice. Address to USL to gain access to this service.
Non-EU students
Such students may apply for voluntary registration with the National Health System, paying a lump sum of 149,77 Euro. The amount is paid yearly and its validity expires on December 31st of each year. It entitles payers to receive a health card with an indication of the GP of their choice. Address to USL to gain access to this service. In the event that foreign students being registered already with the National Health System wanting to continue with the GP of their choice, they may, in the municipality of their residence, access general doctors (the so-called "general practitioners") of Bologna U.S.L. who will be available for home or day hospital visits. Students are required to show the badge which they have received at the time of registration. Remember to keep the health card received from the USL agency of the municipality of residence with you at all times. This card needs to be used for prescriptions (medicines, clinical tests, specialized visits) made by the GP with the list of medicines of the N.H.S.. The details of the health card will have to be shown on prescriptions.
